Background Check Notice - Per California Law
Background Check Notice - Per California Law
Updated over 2 months ago

UrbanMount’s commitment to user safety may entail obtaining background checks on Professionals, particularly in jurisdictions like California. This notice explains our obligations and your rights under state law.

  • Why We Conduct Checks
Background screens help assess whether a Professional has relevant criminal history or identity inconsistencies that might pose a risk. UrbanMount engages reputable third-party reporting agencies to process such information. We do not store full criminal records on our servers; we simply receive a pass/fail or relevant summary from the provider.

  • Consent and Disclosure
Professionals may be asked to sign a disclosure and authorization form before we initiate the background check. This typically identifies the consumer reporting agency, clarifies permissible use of the data, and instructs you how to dispute inaccuracies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). You have the right to obtain a free copy of your report if you are subject to an adverse decision (like denial of the right to offer services on UrbanMount) due to check findings.

  • Your Rights
Under California law, you can visit or contact the reporting agency to review or correct any entries. The agency may require identification or additional supporting information to confirm your identity. Should you dispute the results, the agency typically re-investigates within 30 days. UrbanMount will pause final decisions until that process is complete, if feasible.

Note: UrbanMount is a technology platform and not an employer of Professionals. While we make efforts to filter out individuals with disqualifying records, we cannot guarantee accuracy or completeness of third-party background checks. Clients should conduct their own due diligence for any high-stakes projects.
